New faucets can offer sprayers, have a high-arch and even be hands-free. You spend a great deal of time standing at the sink. Lighting Makeover

Kitchen lighting is often overlooked when renovating a kitchen.  Lighting is now not only functional, but beautiful. With a few simple lighting updates, your kitchen can take on a new look.  New lighting can do wonders!  Lighting is a great update because you can pick and choose one light at a time or buy them all together…whatever your budget allows.

You can add or change the table chandelier, the sink light, the light over the stove, pendant lights, ceiling lights or cabinet lighting. For example, my kitchen used to have dark, spanish style lights.  Ordering everything online, I quickly replaced the light over my kitchen table, my sink light and even my pendant lights. For my pendant lights, I only had to replace the shades. I plan to add cabinet lighting in the future.  For more kitchen lighting makeover diy ideas, checkout my kitchen lighting makeover page. Kitchen Cabinet Hardware

Changing out all of your cabinet knobs and drawer pulls is another easy way to update your kitchen for less than 1000 dollars.  The price for kitchen cabinet hardware really ranges. You can spend from 2 dollars to 20 dollars or more per piece. Scan through social media for pictures of kitchens with cabinets similar to your cabinets.

Find a picture of cabinet pulls and knobs that you enjoy. Make sure and measure the distance between the drawer pull holes if you do not want to redrill. It makes for super easy installation if the width of the new pulls are the same as your current drawer pull.  Kitchen cabinet drawer pulls are a very inexpensive way to modify your kitchen cabinets for less than 1000 dollars. New hardware can add a personal touch and flair to your kitchen. You will be surprised at the difference.

Adding a Backsplash

A kitchen backsplash might look expensive, but a backsplash does not have to cost a fortune.  A backsplash will immediately brighten your kitchen and protect your walls. It will make cleanup easier.  You can add color if you would like. There are many materials for you to choose from to match your kitchen.  Depending on your kitchen, you can choose tile, glass, stone, wood and even metal for the material.

To stay under 1000 dollars, you would just need to calculate the square footage and make sure you pick a material that meets your budget needs.  You can go traditional, classic or modern. With so many options, a kitchen backsplash can definitely come in within budget. There are even peel and stick options that don’t require grout. Even if you have a significant area to cover, a backsplash definitely comes in under 1000 dollars.

Upgrading your Appliances

Appliances can be a glaring problem both functionally and aesthetically in a kitchen.  This is a tricky one because the sky is pretty much the limit when it comes to appliances.  If you are willing to shop around and manage your wants when it comes to appliances, you can definitely update one appliance at a time for under 1000 dollars.  Appliances have come a long way and the look and functionality of new appliances are impressive. You often get used to the little things that break or get worn out in your appliances.

Think if you suddenly have a working oven light when you have gone without one for so long. Or, that kitchen refrigerator shelf that always falls out is nonexistent or the vent now works on your microwave…all in a beautiful stainless steel or upgraded, current finish.  You will probably ask yourself why you waited so long to replace your appliances. Appliance replacement is a great option when operating with a budget of 1000 dollars.

Painting the Kitchen

Painting your walls and ceiling is definitely the way to go if you are on a tight budget.  You can go light and bright paint. Or, you can choose a trendy color for a modern look. Paint one wall a different color as an accent.  Frame out an area and use chalkboard paint to create a handy kitchen chalkboard that adds functionality and a little whimsy to your kitchen.

Paint is cheap and easy to change. Your walls will be clean and smooth again. A space can seem larger or small only because of the color that it is painted.  It is also something that you can easily do on your own. Paint creates a warm and welcoming space. It is a quick, inexpensive update that anyone can accomplish.

Updating Your Cabinets

Changing your cabinets out for under 1000 dollars is nearly impossible, but updating your cabinets can definitely be accomplished for under 1000 dollars.  Cabinets often hold up well, but can look out of style. Cabinets can be painted in a more current color. If you have an island, the island can be painted in a contrasting color.  The paint today is of much higher quality and washable for easy maintenance.

You can replace some of the solid doors with glass doors for a focal point and added interest. You can also install under the cabinet or over the cabinet lighting to update your look.  Also, crown molding can be added to the top of your cabinets to give you that step up from builder grade cabinets. A variety of inexpensive options exist to update your kitchen cabinets and transform your kitchen.

Adding Furniture to Your Kitchen

Furniture can be added to the kitchen to create a more modern, cohesive look without breaking the bank.  Add a rolling island or a shelving unit. A rolling or standing island gives you more counter space and storage.   A shelving unit or sideboard can be used to display all of your beautiful dishes instead of hiding them.

You can even replace your old table and chairs or add some bar stools.  Just adding new furniture can make you look at your kitchen in a different way. Be really creative and add a dresser with a butcher block or marble top. Run down to the store or order online, buying new kitchen furniture is the easiest update there is for a DIYer!

Adding Decorative Items to Your Kitchen

A very inexpensive way to update your kitchen is to add small decorative items.  Similar to jewelry on a stylish outfit. Add a coordinating rug in front of kitchen sink.  Not only will it look great in your kitchen, but it will feel great under your feet and protect your floor.  Add or update your window coverings.  Window coverings immediately soften a room and add style.

Small appliances are beautiful and stylish and when coordinated in style add cohesion when placed on the counter.  Add dishes, curtains and accessories all in the same color to really bring a room together.  Decorative items can go along way by adding your particular style to your kitchen.

Your kitchen is the heart of your home.  It should be comfortable, welcoming, functional and above all a place that you enjoy.  As time goes by without an update, the look and function tends to deteriorate. Don’t be discouraged if you are low on cash flow and your kitchen is desperately calling out for help!  Envision the end result of your kitchen updates and plan ahead. Then, using the options above, incrementally update your kitchen at a time when your wallet can handle it. There are many options for any budget.  Have fun!
